From Mount Meru’s Sunrise to Kilimanjaro’s Starry Skies: Fenix Delivers Unwavering Safety for Every Expedition

For outdoor enthusiasts, a quality headlamp transcends its role as a mere “tool,” becoming a cherished “companion” in the embrace of darkness. Charlotte Logie traversed snow-capped mountains across Africa with her Fenix headlamp —— HM65R-T V2.0, calling it "essential gear" for endurance races. This is the story of her expedition with Fenix.

This was our trip in January this year, we went to Tanzania to summit 2 mountains, first up was Mt Meru (Africa’s little known 5th highest peak) where you watch the sunrise over Kilimanjaro. It was an incredibly tough mountain to summit, but so peaceful and quiet with a fraction of the Kili footfall. It was the first time I’d really got to fully try out my Fenix headlamp(the race I’d initially bought it for last year was canceled). It was an incredible bit of kit. We set off for the summit soon after midnight so the 6hr trek up was in complete darkness but the illumination on this headlamp was outstanding. I’ve been to Nepal and Pakistan previously trekking with other headlamps but the illumination and battery capacity had nothing on this Fenix! Even on its lowest setting I could see so much, I was never left unsure of my foot placement or my surrounding and route options. Mt Meru was our acclimatisation trek and once we were back down to base camp we set off to summit Enter Africas biggie - Kilimanjaro! This was a slightly longer trek so more camp time and a longer summit day, again starting at midnight. I didn’t have to charge the Fenix the entire time I was on the mountain, the battery life is amazing!

It’s a really comfy headlamp to wear, it was amazing in the mountains but I usually get most use from it on my endurance races. I have it ready for my upcoming 100 mile race in the Lake District where it will take me through 2 nights where I know illumination won’t be something I’ll need to worry about! In January next year I have the 168mile Spine Race event where I’ll be needing it for days where the UK is in 16hrs of darkness and I’ll likely be out racing for 5 days so this will be calling on the Fenix powers for everything it has!!

I just love being on an adventure in the mountains, being switched off for all comms and existing within your own power and determination is when I am at my happiest.
